Mathis Cathignol has just won first prize, worth €10,000, in the International Pierre Barbizet Competition, the first edition of which has just been held in Marseille. In the same competition, Paul Lecocq won the second prize worth €5,000.
Piano Cantabile has been coaching Mathis very regularly for about ten years. In 2017 he entered the Paris Conservatoire where he obtained his master’s degree with honors, studying first with Florent Boffard and subsequently Claire Désert.
In 2022, Mathis gained a place on the performance course of the Regional Conservatoire of Paris to study with Célimène Daudet.
Mathis has already won several international awards, in particular 1st prize in Cognac in 2023, 2nd prize in Colioure and 1st prize in Marcq-en-Baroeul in 2024.
Aged only 19, Paul Lecocq has been attending Piano Cantabile courses regularly since 2021. After 9 years with Christine Fonlupt, he entered the Paris Conservatoire in 2022 to study with Claire Désert and Romano Pallottini.
Despite his very young age, Paul has already won 3rd prize in the “Euregio piano awards” competition in Geilenkirchen, another 3rd prize in “Piano-campus” and 2nd prize in the “Virtuosos du coeur” contest.
